Freakin' Metal!
When the music world grows bland with tiring rock, country, and pop songs, sometimes the true gems of music become beacons of light that show you where you need to look next. When Engraved Disillusion contacted me on YouTube a week or so ago and said that they had an EP out and were looking for people to look into it, I must admit that the thought in my head was "man another dime a dozen metal band that isn't going to interest me." I'm so glad that I was wrong. I downloaded the EP Desolate which features the songs "Desolate," "A Fallen Redemption," and "From Sorrow to Serenity."
When I started Desolate I was sonically beaten into a pulp by catchy rhythms and grooves. This EP instantly caught my attention though with the opening solo, and when a song can instantly catch my attention as quickly as this one did, I knew there was something special about this band. The vocal style of screams and growls, is reminiscent of Parkway Drive and Between the Buried and Me, but with it's own twist to it. There is a sort of raw power behind the singers voice that most CDs can't capture, and this EP does. The drummer and bassist should also be commended on their work for making these songs so heavy. The effort that these guys put into making these songs really show.
So what is the overall verdict? Well since this is only a three song EP record, there really isn't a whole lot to say other than to wait for the whole album to come out. I could go on and on about intricacies in the music and evaluate each song, but I don't want to bore or take away from a musical experience. So with that being said, get this album when it comes out and play it as loud as you can.
Engraved Disillusion's CD will be out early next year on the label TBC. I highly recommend getting it.
